Memoria

The project occupies an entire block in the neighborhood of La Horqueta, a low-density residential area with abundant vegetation and a strong emphasis on outdoor living. The proposal aims to establish a large-scale building that, rather than imposing itself on the site, integrates respectfully into its surroundings.

At the center of the block, a large interior courtyard is conceived as an urban forest. This shared green space serves as the heart of the project: it organizes the layout of the units, enables cross ventilation, and acts as both a thermal and visual buffer. It is a dense, planted landscape with native species, providing shade, freshness, and a natural environment within the urban fabric.

All units benefit from natural light and ventilation from multiple orientations. Outdoor spaces—balconies, terraces, and private gardens—are essential components of the living experience and are designed as extensions of the interior life into the landscape.

The building’s circulation paths unfold in direct relationship with the central courtyard. Moving through the building means passing through this green space: walkways, bridges, and landings are woven into the vegetation, creating a rich spatial experience with moments of openness, shadow, privacy, and encounter.

The project is structured around typological diversity, allowing for various ways of living. Construction decisions prioritize clarity, efficiency, and durability, while the overall design promotes thermal comfort and a constant connection to the natural environment.

Far from replicating a closed, exclusive urban model, this proposal embraces an architecture that engages with the neighborhood, adds environmental value, and encourages a more open, healthy, and collective way of life. The urban forest is not merely a landscape gesture—it is the structural core from which the entire project is conceived and built.
